Nurturing Nature through Regenerative Tourism

In 2024 BUND Schleswig Holstein and Geopark Det Sydfynske Øhav are developing the project “Pre-Nuna” which is a preliminary initiative supported by Interreg 6A programme.

The collaboration seeks to engage locals and tourists in caring for nature. We are exploring ways for both visitors and residents to engage in local regenerative actions that help them reconnect with nature meaningfully.

At the heart of our mission is the desire to counteract the negative impacts of (mass) tourism and the ongoing environmental challenges threatening biodiversity on land and at sea.

Embracing Regenerative Tourism
We envision regenerative tourism experiences as a powerful tool for positive change. This approach recognizes the interdependence of local communities, their fragile ecosystems, and tourism stakeholders. By adopting a regenerative mindset, nature thrives through conscious care, and both visitors and locals gain fulfillment from their contributions to the environment.

Objectives of the Pre-NUNA Project
In the preliminary phase of the Pre-NUNA project, our goal is to identify the opportunities and challenges inherent in community-driven regenerative initiatives. We are focused on developing engaging and valuable regenerative tourism experiences that benefit both residents and visitors. Our aim is to create platforms where collective efforts can enhance the value of the area, promoting both environmental stewardship and community pride.

Regenerative Tourism in the Baltic Sea Region
Pre-NUNA is dedicated to promoting regenerative tourism throughout the Baltic Sea region. By encouraging and highlighting fruitful collaborations across the region and engaging diverse stakeholders, we aim to demonstrate the benefits of regenerative tourism. Our initiative, NuNa, targets tourist agencies, cultural businesses, community councils, NGOs, and knowledge organizations, adopting a comprehensive approach to community and environmental well-being. By addressing also the local businesses on a small scale to offer regenerative tourism experiences, we aim to foster the development of a regional sustainable and resilient economy.

Expanding Partnerships and Engagement
We are inviting current and new partners to join us through working seminars including field trips. These events will introduce fundamental knowledge about regenerative environmental practices and explore the project's future direction and co-creation. Partners will be asked to commit to their roles before participating in the three-year project, ensuring a unified and dedicated approach.
