Naturturisme I/S is working on the promotion of biking tourism around Det Sydfynske Øhav (The South Funen Archipelago). The Archipelago is a fantastic biking area that has great potential as a Danish tourist destination. All the initiatives that we are working on overall are signalling that Det Sydfynske Øhav is an attractive biking area.
Background and Purpose
We are part of the work in upgrading the national biking tourism: Østersøruten, N8 (The Baltic Route, N8). The work on biking possibilities in Det Sydfynske Øhav is focusing on improving the infrastructure and the facilities for our bike guests.
From the framework of the Interreg project REACT we are also working on strengthening the offers for biking tourists. Here, the focus is on targeting the services and offers from the accommodations to the biking tourists, e.g. via the quality mark ‘Bed+Bike’. And together with Aero and VisitFaaborg we have developed the concept of ‘Bike Friends’ (Cykelvenner Øhavet),which our German partners in the project, the rest of Funen and Danish Cycling Tourism (Dansk Cykelturisme) find interesting. Bike Friends give shops, cafés, churches, petrol stations etc. the possibilities of being service stations for bikers and to offer bicycle pumps, repair kits and other relevant services.
This targeted work with the area’s biking tourism is supporting the work on the development of Mountain Bike Tracks at multiple spots around Det Sydfynske Øhav.
Possibilities and Advantages
With the array of efforts within biking, it is made possible to create a collective impression of Det Sydfynske Øhav as an attractive area when the biking tourists are choosing their next vacation destination.
Collaborators and Funds
The work on promoting the biking tourism in the Archipelago is supporting the BikeIsland 2020 project of Destination Fyn Klyngen (The Destination Funen Cluster) which goal is to make Funen and the islands the favourite biking destination to both foreign and Danish guests. Furthermore, our development of the biking tourism is happening from the framework of more the projects that we are working with: the Interreg project REACT, Mountainbike projects etc.
