Project: Kiss the Frog and Find the Tadpole in Det Sydfynske Øhav

Project description: The active family oriented nature experience in the archipelago

Short description

‘Kiss the Frog’ and ‘Find the Tadpole’ (’Kys Frøen’ og ’Find Haletudsen’) are experience centres in Det Sydfynske Øhav (The South Funen Archipelago) who offers unique nature experiences for families. The activities encourage families with children, school camps and other visitors to “step off the paths” and acquire knowledge about the area’s natural and cultural history through playing and learning – even after you have gone home to your house, institution or school.
Furthermore, the project brings in the operators even though unaided learning is encouraged.

Background and Purpose

Naturturisme I/S would like to expand and spread the active experience possibilities in Det Sydfynske Øhav. In connection to that, two projects have been started in connection to Kiss the Frog. The first project, where the Kiss the Frog-concept was born, ran in 2007-2009, while the latest was realised in 2015-2016 where the new and smaller concept Find the Tadpole was launched. Both projects were brought into play from the concept of nature educational centres (naturskoler) where nature is discovered and where kids and youths are made familiar with, and made to understand, the experiences.
The experience centres frame the visitor’s motivation and self activation in experiencing the nature and the area either unaided or with a ranger.

Possibilities and Advantages

On Kiss the Frog-centres and Find the Tadpole-stations it is possible to borrow all the necessary equipment to get the best experience, and they have had several guests who have returned on a yearly basis.
The cooperation behind ‘Kiss the Frog and Find the Tadpole’ has also created a strong network in outdoor educational activities on South Funen.
