Project: Over Isle and Sea (Over Ø og Hav)
Project description: The exhibition ‘Over Isle and Sea’ (‘Over Ø og Hav’) was opened in The Archipelago Smack- and Nature Centre (Øhavets Smakke- og Naturcenter) on Strynø.
Over Isle and Sea (Over Ø og Hav) – new adventures and activities in the archipelago
In the spring of 2016, the exhibition ‘Over Isle and Sea’ (‘Over Ø og Hav’) was opened in The Archipelago Smack- and Nature Centre (Øhavets Smakke- og Naturcenter) on Strynø. The exhibition is born out of Naturturisme I/S’ dissemination strategy.
‘Over Isle and Sea’ provides information on the nature and island life of Strynø, and it gives perspective to the telling of the entire archipelago and the surrounding islands. The exhibition is to get the visitors outside to learn about the archipelago’s ‘Big5’:
- The shallow water
- The nature of the archipelago
- The birds in the archipelago
- Strynø – the island in the archipelago
- The archipelago – the work of the Ice Age
Background
‘Over Isle and Sea’ – new adventures and activities in the archipelago is part of the dissemination strategy for Det Sydfynske Øhav (The South Funen Archipelago) and is one of multiple steppingstones to Det Sydfynske Øhav. Here, the local stories of the islands’ nature and island life are told from Strynø’s perspective. At the same time, the exhibition gives perspective to the great story of the entire archipelago’s nature and formation history as the largest flooded Ice Age-landscape as well as of archipelago’s cultural history with stories, i.e. about the Smack as “the Volkswagen of the archipelago”.
Purpose
The purpose of ‘Over Isle and Sea’ is to contribute to the telling of Det Sydfynske Øhav – from well preserved secret to national pride and is created “to get people in to get them to go outside” by inspiring, making curious and getting ready to experience the special nature and cultural heritage of Det Sydfynske Øhav.
The basic approach of the exhibition is to create relevant and aesthetic information by the help of pictures, sounds and educational activities to families with children, whom are the primary target of the exhibition.
Possibilities and Advantages
‘Over Isle and Sea is established simultaneously with the completion of another project on The Archipelago Smack- and Nature Centre (Øhavets Smakke- og Naturcenter), namely the establishment of a Kiss the Frog-centre under the project ‘The active family oriented nature experience in the archipelago’. This has given the opportunity to combine exhibition and activities for the visitors to get a holistic experience and a unique starting point to go out and experience Strynø and the archipelago.
Collaborators
‘Over Isle and Sea’ is created in cooperation with The Archipelago Smack- and Nature Centre and with professional sparring from museums, local history archives and rangers in Det Sydfynske Øhav (The South Funen Archipelago).
The exhibition is established in turnkey by Kvorning Design & Communication.
Film and photos are produced by Moving Nature.
Animations are produced by Cordura.
