Tour 1: Ferry rides, island living, and birdlife on drejø and skarø
Visiting the small islands in the archipelago is almost like travelling to a bygone era. The absence of traffic and urban development brings you closer to the sounds of nature, birdlife and old buildings.
Experience the idyllic island life on Drejø and Skarø. Travelling on the ferry Højestene is an experience in itself - enjoy the trip through Svendborgsund and the excitement of sea travel. It is a crucial part of the geopark's cultural heritage.
The islands are relatively small, so we recommend visiting them on foot or bike.
The ferry sails to both islands, so you can disembark on Drejø, sail from there to Skarø and then sail back to Svendborg.
Get off the ferry at Drejø and walk or ride your bike through Drejø town to Gammel Havn and experience the special atmosphere (1.8 km). You can rent bikes at the harbor.
Continue on to Drejø cliff, where there is a great view and interesting geology (5.2 km).
Take the ferry from Drejø to Skarø and visit Denmark's most beautifully situated ice factory "Skarø Is" (450 m). World-class ice cream is produced here and you can enjoy ice cream, coffee and small meals in the courtyard.
Footpaths across fields and along the coast make it easy to explore the island by foot. A walk on Skarø's 900 meter long reef is also a very special experience. However, it should be noted that the reef is a wildlife habitat, so there is no access during the bird breeding season from March 1 to July 15.
Time required
At least one full day - but you can easily spend one day on each island.
